THEIA: Support for ESA's Copernicus security services

THEA: Support to ESA's Copernicus Security Services, is an innovative project that uses advanced Earth observation technologies to improve Copernicus security services.

Project description:

THEIA is an innovative project that uses advanced Earth observation technologies to improve Copernicus security services. With the increasing challenges of climate change and global security issues, THEIA aims to detect population movements. This helps EU authorities to make informed decisions and respond in a timely manner.

Focus on earth observation

At the heart of THEIA is the integration of earth observation data obtained by very high-resolution satellites. This data enables detailed monitoring of the earth's surface and provides crucial information for analyzing security-relevant events at an early stage. The use of European satellite constellations creates a comprehensive and timely database for this purpose.

Key use cases

1. detection of environmentally induced flight movements:

Use of space technologies for identification and monitoring during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.

2. monitoring population movements in crisis areas:

Providing comprehensive data and analysis on the dynamics of population displacement in and around conflict zones.

Target groups and partnerships

THEIA is aimed at EU organizations, EU national agencies and intelligence services. The project is carried out in close cooperation with leading technology partners, including GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS (GSH), the European Union Satellite Centre (SATCEN), LuxSpace SARL, the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), the Center of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies (SPACE-SI), the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), European Dynamics Luxembourg (ED), Creotech Instruments (CREO), Intelligent Systems (C3I), Web2Climate (WTOC), and MPL Brussels (MPL).
