Copernicus Demonstrators - Mobility, Emergency and Infrastructures

Copernicus Demonstrators - Mobility, Emergency and Infrastructures is an EUSPA-funded project to analyze and assess the technical feasibility of five innovative proof of concepts and to technically demonstrate the selected proof of concepts using Copernicus data and services to show the benefits of such data and services in the operational environment of users.

The Copernicus satellite constellation, a crucial component of the European Union's space program, provides comprehensive, free and open-access data and services for various thematic areas, including land, ocean, atmosphere, climate change, emergency and security. To improve the downstream and commercial use of these services, EUSPA is supporting a project aimed at demonstrating innovative proof of concepts to expand the user base through new applications.

OHB Digital Services has been commissioned to manage the project, which will be carried out in two phases: Phase 1 comprises the evaluation of the technical feasibility of five proof of concepts, while Phase 2 focuses on the development and technical implementation of three selected concepts.

Phase 1

Study on the technical feasibility and commercial viability of innovative Copernicus demonstrators in 5 Proof of Concepts:

  • POC 1 Measurement and monitoring of aircraft emissions
  • POC 2 Emergency preparedness and early warning of flooding
  • POC 3 Autonomous navigation and optimization of the ship's route
  • POC 4Intelligent mobility and autonomous vehicles
  • POC 5monitoring of infrastructures

Proof of Concept 5: Monitoring historical, current and forecast rail
temperature data to improve the rail infrastructure.

Proof of Concept 1: Monitoring sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations around
major European airports at higher spatial resolution to support sustainable aviation practices.

Proof of Concept 2: Flood risk assessment by integrating high-resolution Copernicus data with hydrological and hydraulic models for accurate risk assessment for user-defined assets.

Proof of Concept 3: Evaluation of the impact of biofouling on shipping
routes, emissions, fuel consumption and hull cleaning costs in order to optimize operations and reduce environmental impact.

Proof of Concept 4: Efficient route planning
for sustainable mobility using global data to optimize travel
routes, reduce environmental
pollution and congestion and promote environmentally friendly transport solutions.

Support all Proof of Concepts through consulting and business analysis and lead the recommendation process of 3 Proof of Concepts for Phase 2.
