Comprehensive Zinc Slab Management System for AMB

OHB Digital Services is developing a software solution at ArcelorMittal’s Bremen facility—a long-standing partner and the world’s largest steel group—to streamline the tracking and management of zinc slabs.

Customer Benefits

  • Time savings through simplified tracking of deliveries

  • Establishment of an innovative, comprehensive management system for zinc ingots

  • User-friendly application thanks to fewer required inputs and intuitive operation

  • Process optimization, as the error rate associated with manually recording the color codes of zinc slabs has been eliminated

At the request of ArcelorMittal Bremen, OHB Digital Services is migrating an application used to track and manage zinc slabs from Windows CE to Android OS as part of an effort to modernize the technology in use.

Simple solutions—big impact

Instead of manually recording individual zinc slabs—a process prone to errors—deliveries can now be recorded in their entirety. In the future, the color coding of the zinc slabs will be recorded directly upon delivery using a barcode scannerfor each truckload. The zinc slabs are marked on their ends with color coding that complies with international standards. The previous manual selectionof eachindividual slab is no longer necessary. This results in significant time savings in the work process, as color selection is now approximately 10 times faster than before. The permitted zinc slab color codes per facility are visible and thus regulate the flow to the Bregal1 and Bregal2 galvanizing lines. This small adjustment has a major impact; the recording process becomes less prone to errors and more efficient. The software also enables comprehensive management of the zinc slabs, from delivery and storage through use and inspection to shipping and inventory.

Personalized consulting for customized software solutions

After analyzing operational processes during the initial consultation, we establish a set of objectives that are refined and further improved throughout the project. Redundant workflows are eliminated, ensuring that the project streamlines operations. The result is custom-tailored software that not only meets ArcelorMittal’s objectives but also delights end users.
