SCHULZ Systemtechnik GmbH is one of the leading developers of automation solutions and is particularly distinguished by its versatility. The combination of an Android smartphone with a built-in laser scanner offers a flexible solution that can be easily adapted to future requirements. Compared to previous devices, this significantly improves usability. OHB Digital Services is assisting with the development of the software to integrate the new devices with the MES (Manufacturing Execution System).

Function

The software, which takes the form of an Android app, controls the laser scanner and maintains a two-way interface with the MES. This allows the MES to send instructions and information to a specific device, for example, to notify its user of upcoming tasks.

During scanning, the user receives audiovisual feedback from the MES indicating whether the correct item has been scanned. The MES can provide the user with any additional information regarding the scanning process. This sets the solution apart from other scanners, whose feedback is limited to barcode recognition.

In practice, however, it offers the same ease of use as a standard scanner: the built-in laser scanner allows barcodes to be scanned at the usual speed. The device launches directly with the app, so the user does not have to deal with the underlying Android operating system.
