The Copernicus satellite constellation, a key component of the European Union’s Space Programme, provides free and open-access Earth observation data across various domains, including Land, Marine, Atmosphere, Climate Change, Emergency, and Security. To foster innovation and expand the commercial adoption of Copernicus services, the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) is funding the Copernicus Demonstrators – Mobility and Emergency project. Led by OHB Digital Services GmbH, this initiative aims to showcase innovative applications through Proof of Concepts (PoCs) that demonstrate the potential of Copernicus data in real-world scenarios.

As the project reaches its conclusion, a dedicated workshop will be held to present the results. The companies behind the development of three demonstrators will showcase their solutions and discuss their applications.

PoC 1: Aircraft Emission Measurement and Monitoring

Developed by S[&]T

This solution enhances the monitoring of aviation-related emissions by providing high-resolution air quality insights for airport operators and regulatory agencies. Its user-friendly interface integrates into operational processes, enabling detailed analysis of air quality trends and facilitating compliance with environmental regulations.

PoC 2: Emergency Preparedness and Early Warning of Floods

Developed by Waterjade

This flood early warning system combines high-resolution Copernicus data with hydrological and hydraulic modeling to forecast extreme precipitation events and assess potential flooding impacts on urban areas and critical infrastructure, such as water utilities and power plants.

PoC 3: Autonomous Navigation and Ship Route Optimization

Developed by OHB LuxSpace

The SAILFIN platform aims to mitigate the effects of biofouling, which contribute to increased fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. By integrating Copernicus Marine Service (CMS) data with Automated Identification System (AIS) data, the platform provides daily and historical biofouling risk assessments at global, regional, and vessel-specific levels.
